Kindergarten
We Have Two Options
Both programs are rigorous programs that are geared to help kids that are ready for kindergarten (socially, emotionally and academically) to be prepared for first grade by June. Students need to be able to function in group learning environments, work independently, be capable of taking directions from teachers and use appropriate communication skills. We have a great student/teacher ratio and that helps us get kids ready for the next step. We are not equipped to provide one on one support as the norm.
The kindergarten curriculum is aligned with the WA State Common Core standards and is carefully crafted to meet the needs and interests of our students. Our literacy program is based on Wonders (McGraw-Hill) and integrates social studies and science topics into each unit. Because one single curriculum can’t meet every need, we supplement this curriculum with Nellie Edge’s “ABC Sign with Me” and authentic writing activities, and with David Matteson’s P-3 Writing Foundations. Our math units integrate three research-based programs (Guided Math, Math for Love, and Counting Collections) to allow for a balanced, hands-on approach to mastering math skills. Throughout the year, we will have several Storybook STEM weeks. These weeks integrate a beloved children’s story with science, engineering, and art. Because healthy bodies and minds are just as important as academic skills, we take time to teach students about growth mindsets, positive affirmations, and have PE once per week.
Both our half day and full day programs will include the core subjects of reading (phonics and small group instruction), writing, math, PE, and free play. The full day program will include an extra recess, lunch, and enrichment activities. These student-centered activities will build on the social studies or science concepts that were already introduced during the core academic instruction time.
KATC prides itself on providing a safe, loving environment for kindergarten students to grow and learn!
Must be 5 years by Aug. 31st of the current school year.
